Special event celebrations abound through the county and surrounding area. Carnivals, car shows, polkas and popcorn bring Valley County to life throughout the year. You will certainly find an activity that interests you. Visit the online community calendar for details about these and other events.

January

  • Ord/Elyria Ducks Unlimited Banquet (Elyria)

February

  • Valley County Home & Ag Expo (Ord): Explore all that Valley County has to offer in the home, garden and agricultural industries. Admission is free.

March

  • Pheasants Forever Banquet (Ord)

April

  • Kids Fair (Ord): A morning filled with activities and education for young children and their families.
  • Nebraska Grown Arts Festival (Valley County Area): A new event in 2017 featuring fine arts throughout Valley County and western Custer County as well as culinary and performing arts at the conclustion of the two-day event.

May

  • Spring Muster at Fort Hartsuff (Elyria): Experience a living history at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park. While you’re there, take a tour of the park.

June

  • Central Nebraska Farm Safety 4 Just Kids Day (Ord)
  • Valley Rods Father’s Day Rod Run (Ord): Ord’s commemoration of Fathers Day has classic automobiles performing burnouts, a show ‘n shine and a large car show around the downtown square.
  • Tour de Nebraska (Ord): Our community is honored to host 450+ cyclists in 2017 as part of the 30th Anniversary of Tour de Nebraska.

July

  • Ord Fireworks & Festivities (Ord)
  • VCHS Foundation Golf Tournament (Ord)
  • Ord High School Alumni Weekend (Ord): Alumni explore the happening of their hometown during 4th of July weekend.

August

  • Valley County Fair (Ord): Enjoy the idea of a traditional county fair with the annual offerings of 4H contests, a BBQ Cookoff, bull riding, a parade, auctions, live entertainment and more.
  • Loup Valley Livestock Challenge (Ord): County fair champions from across the Midwest compete for livestock showing top honors at the Valley County Fairgrounds.
  • North Loup Popcorn Days (North Loup): Crops of popcorn reach their peak in the late summer and North Loup recognizes it with a polka, parade, tractor pull, and, of course, all the free popcorn you can eat.

September

  • Arcadia Fall Festival (Arcadia): The town’s Fall festival showcases playhouse productions, kids races, demo derby, junior rodeo, and a parade.
  • Nebraska Junk Jaunt (Loup River Valley): A treasure hunter’s paradise, the annual Junk Jaunt features 300 miles of tag sales along the area byways.
  • VCHS Neon Moon Run (Ord): Grab a friend, headlamps, glow sticks and neon gear for this 10K, 5K and 1 mile walk/run event.

October

  • National Hall Craft Festival (rural Valley County): The ideal place to stock up on holiday gifts, the festival welcomes craft vendors, baked goods and lunch.
  • Elyria Pumpkin Festival (Elyria): Harvest season is a gorgeous time in the prairies and fields. Elyria recognizes this time with crafts, rides, games, lunch and that most traditional of Fall treats, pumpkin pie.

November

  • Loup Valley Ag Society’s Wine Tasting Event (Ord): Experience great Nebraska wine as well as other local products during this fundraiser for the Loup Valley Ag Society.
  • Candy Cane Craft Fair (Ord)
  • Winterfest & Small Business Saturday (Ord): Celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season with numerous family activities including a Snowball Drop, soup suppers, horse and carriage rides and a parade featuring local businesses and the red-clad man himself, Santa.

December

  • Arcadia’s Christmas in the Village (Arcadia): Shopping, crafts, activities for kids, and of course, Santa!
